WE had a lot of fun at those Bluegrass shows and at the grandparents house. My best memories are of all of us and the family being together, grandparents, aunts, uncles, & cousins. Of all the food, Grandpa always said "last hog to the trough gets no slop" but i don't remember there never not being enough food. And the big family vacations that would put a convoy to shame. Waking up to the smell of bacon and eggs. We need to do that for our kids and grandkids somtime.

Good luck with it...I know you've had that one for a long time and I have every confidence in the world in your writing and finishing this story. If it's the one I'm thinking of I can't wait to see/read the finished product.

Good luck and you can do it!!!

Love ya lots

I remember he use to make this incredible grease salad that was the bomb...I just loved it when we went over and that was on the menu, hot grease salad with bacon crumbs...oh how my mouth waters for that again. They were great cooks anytime we showed up over there they were either in the kitchen cooking or had just made something and would take us right in there to eat. I remember breakfast was always simple: bacon, sausage, biscuts with apple butter. There was always apple butter on the table, I believe Grandpa ate it with all three meals.

I have to make a correction to my post....Daddy informed me that it was not an old VW Van it was in fact a Ford Econoline Van(my bad, they look alike). Either way it was a great van and we loved to ride in it. There was a big console looking thing in the front between the two seats he would let us sit on, sometimes two of us would be sitting on it going down the road (that was before seat belt inforcement)...

I remember all to well the Bluegrass Festivals and loved going, although I didn't go for the music, Donna and I went for the boys. I loved going and hanging out with Granny and Grandpa although I don't remember Grandpa being around much he was always shooting the breeze with other Bluegrassers. I do remember though Grannie sitting in her chair watching the people go by and listening to the music. We would walk around when she got tired of sitting, but like I said, Donna and I were scouting....lol I remember when it was cold we would go back to the RV and Granny would make us hot chocolate in those little disposable camping cups (you know which ones)and I have to admit Granny made the best hot chocolate around, I don't think I've ever has hot chocolate that tasted like hers and I do miss it. Drifting off to sleep listening to the bluegrass music fade into the night and the quiet talk around the campground was peaceful in itself. What a life our grandparents lived.

We did have the best grandparents. That is why I'm spending this whole week writing about them and the precious memories they gave us.

I too loved that old shop. Sometimes Grandpa would give us an old radio to pretend we were fixing and I would sit on that stool and act like I was fixing it. He took me on numerous service calls too and when you were with him riding around in that old van you thought you were really something. Him and Granny truly were the best grandparents.

This reminds me of my Grandad's car shed. Mysterious objects everywhere, and that special, unique smell that never changed from year to year. Wish I could walk in there and smell it again.
